I'm soo happy it's almost the weekend. Not that we have much exciting planned but this week has had its ups and downs. Good thing about this week was the cleaning lady came and got my house all sparkling clean which always makes me feel great. Bad thing was a day later my husband's 450 gallon salt water aquarium flooded parts of my house, thank god it was only the tile floors and just the entryway of my son's bedroom. My son had a party to go to Tuesday evening at PUMP IT UP. My DH and I took advantage of not having a kid with us and went out for Japanese food. After, we picked our son up from his party, ran an errand and came home. As my son and I are getting out of the car, (my DH had already gone inside) we hear all kinds of obscenities being yelled from inside the house. I tell my son, wait here, I walk in and see tons of water all over my newly mopped tile floors. I now have to take all the towels I own, beach towels included that have been washed and neatly stacked in my linen closet and lay them all over the floor to sop up the water. We were up til 1am and all day yesterday I got to spend washing and drying all my towels and trying to fold them like the cleaning lady does so that my house was back in order again. What a fun day! NOT!!!!
Today I'm getting my son and getting out of the house and heading for the pool club. That should cheer us up. Atleast I can work on getting somewhat of a tan.
That's it for now!!!

It's a SAD DAY
I just wanted to send this out to everyone I know. My mom's co-worker's 4 year old son choked to death this Tuesday. After hearing about what happened I realized that I don't think a lot of people realize that a simple thing like a hot dog could be a choking hazard. I know that my son has been eatingcorn dogs and hot dogs since he was probably 3 years old and most of the time he would just eat thehot dog in a bun just like everyone else. The article below is from this morning's newspaperon the front of the local section and this story has been on the news. PLEASE, get this article outto anyone you know who has little ones. This is the 2nd time someone I've known has lost a childdue to choking on food. Thanks for taking the time to read this. ____________________________________________________________________________
Fremont boy chokes to death on hot dogVisitation for 4-year-old will be Wednesday, Mass on ThursdayBy Linh Tat, STAFF WRITERInside Bay Area
FREMONT — Some of Enrique Cardenas III's favorite pastimes were going to the park with his mother and half-sisters, accompanying his father to work and playing video games with his grandmother.
The moments he spent with his family were happy ones, although short-lived.
Cardenas, 4, died Tuesday, when he choked on a hot dog at his Fremont home.
Injuries or deaths resulting from airway obstruction — choking, strangulation or suffocation — among children is a common problem. About 80 percent of children 4 and younger who were rushed to emergency rooms in 2003 were treated for airway obstruction, said Mike Livingston, spokesman for Safe Kids Worldwide, previously known as the National SAFE KIDS Campaign.
In 2002, 168 children nationwide died from choking, with 42 percent of those cases being food-related, he said.
When it comes to food, young children are most at risk of choking on small, round foods, such as hot dogs, candies, nuts, grapes, carrots and popcorn, according to Safe Kids. And, according to Adoption.com, hot dogs are the No. 1 food that causes choking in children.
Born at Washington Hospital on Feb. 2, 2001, Cardenas grew up in a house near Blacow Road and Mowry Avenue.
He was an active and social boy who loved playing with his cat, Mi Nina, going to Chuck E. Cheese's and Great America, or riding his bicycle.
He developed a love for cars through his father, Enrique Cardenas II, who teaches an auto shop class through the Mission Valley Regional Occupational Program. The 4-year-old's favorite cars were the PT Cruiser, MINI Cooper and the HUMMER.
"When he saw those cars on the road, he would always point them out. They always caught his attention," his father said Thursday.
Cardenas also loved watching cartoons, particularly SpongeBob SquarePants. The family will have SpongeBob characters painted on his casket.
"He was the perfect kid. Nobody could ask for anything better," Cardenas' father said.
In addition to his father, Cardenas is survived by his mother, Benita Cardenas of Fremont; his half-sisters, Vilma and Valerie Perez of Fremont; his grandmother, Vilma Robelo of Fremont; and his grandfather, EnriqueCardenas Sr. of Union City.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Machado's Hillside Chapel, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 41933 Blacow Road, Fremont, followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd., Hayward.
Cardenas will be buried in the same plot as his paternal grandmother.

FINALLY got some SCRAPPIN' Done!!!!!
This weekend I was so excited, we went to my DH's r/c boat race and I packed up the RV with scrapbooking supplies and pictures. Did I get much scrappin done? Not really, but I did do a two page layout from LAST YEAR when my son got his hair hi-lighted. Every summer he gets it done (he thinks it makes him look cool, I happen to think he's cool whether he has the hilights or not but whatever). Well we went to
my hairplace and my friend says, when are you gonna show me the pics you scrapbooked from the last time I hilighted his hair, I had to tell her I haven't scrapped them yet, that's why you haven't seen them. So that was my goal for the weekend, to get
those pictures scrapped and to organize some scrappin' supplies in our motorhome for me to have when we're camping.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL!!!!
Today was interesting. I get a call from my son asking if I can come to the school at noon and
help with the 4th grade's ice cream social. I say Sure, (I don't REALLY feel like going anywhere, but it is the day before the last day of school and it's probably the last thing I'll do as ROOM MOM for my son's class) so I start getting ready and drive over to the school. My job turns out to be ice cream scooper. Each of the 4th graders have had chances all semester to earn parts of their ice cream sundae. They can earn up to 3 ice cream scoops, 3 toppings, whipped cream, and a cherry on top based on math tests, assignments, etc. Then they are presented with a certificate that states how many scoops and toppings they have earned. When I get there, the teacher has all the kids line up with their certificates. My son not so slyly asks "Hey Mom! Since you're helping out do I get extra toppings???" Of course several kids nearby hear him and are listening for my answer. I of course say "No....you'll get what's on your paper just like everyone else." One of the kids says "SEE!!!! I told you!". I do have to admit when it was my son's turn in line I did give him a little bigger scoop of ice cream but I didn't make it obvious...hee hee! Anyways....there are like 200 4th graders and I've come to realize that VANILLA ice cream is the favorite among these kids. I had to scoop more ice cream than the teacher and her brother whom she recruited to help out. I felt bad for the last 75 or so kids cause it was really hot out and the ice cream was melting and we were running out too so we had to give them much smaller scoops than the kids in the beginning of the line. I swear it wasn't because I gave my son a bigger scoop....really it wasn't! =0)
One kid actually tried to come back after he had totally cleaned the bowl, I think he actually licked it! And said he had dropped the whole thing. I'm such a sucker I actually felt bad but then I looked at the teacher and she totally knew the kid was lying. What a sneaky kid!!!!
Anyways, we managed to make the ice cream last long enough for the last kid to get some and there was one scoop left for me to make a really tiny sundae....well by that time it was actually like a runny milkshake!!!! I can't wait til school's out...one more day!!!!

READ the labels on your prescriptions!!!!!!!!
Today REALLLY sucked! I have been nauseous ALL DAY LONG and extremely tired.
Let me back it up a few hours, LAST NIGHT I got home around 10pm and just wanted
to take some Robitussin with Codiene and go to bed. The night before I had been up
all night hacking and coughing (I have bronchitis) so I just wanted to get some sleep. So
I go home, take 2 tablespoons of what I *thought* was Robitussin w/ Codiene and go to bed.
About an hour later I still feel awake and am coughing so I go back to the kitchen and take 2
more tablespoons. I go back to bed and fall asleep. Several hours later my husband is waking me up because I'm talking in my sleep obviously from a bad dream. I go back to bed immediatly completely lethargic by this time. The next day I'm realizing when my husband gets me up
I am still totally feeling the codiene and cannot possibly get in a car and drive my 10 yr old son to school so I have my friend who lives in our neighborhood pick him up on his way to take his kids to school. My cleaning lady arrives and I try to tell her I don't feel good and I need to take
a "siesta" I "think" that means sleep right? (my cleaning lady doesn't speak a whole lot of english but she could definitely tell I wasn't doing well). As the day progresses I am feeling more and more sick like I need to throw up. I call Kaiser and they have me read to them what the bottle of medicine says, I tell them hydrocodone w/ homatropine. They inform me that is NOT Robitussin w/ codiene it is VICODIN. And that I took 4-5 times the recommended dosage for vicodin (because I thought it was RObitussin and that you can take 2 tbspns). I follow the advice nurses instructions and continue drinking lots of water trying to flush the vicodin out of my system but as the day goes by I feel worse and worse....by the time my son got home from school I had already had my mom come pick us up and take me to emergency. Ended up having to have an IV (which took 3 different people to try and get the IV in with their smallest needle) and a few shots of phenergan for the nausea. I finally got home around 8:30pm. I DEFINITELY have learned to read the labels on my medicine BEFORE taking anything. What a nightmare!!!! To top it off the vicodin was actually expired a year ago, imagine if it had been a new prescription, I might have been much worse off!!!!!! Needless to say, I have thrown out the bottle of vicodin and memorized what hydrocodone w/ homatropine is so this never happens again!!!
